Palace Acappella Choir @ Ground Floor
Feb 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Every Tuesday

Palace Acappella Choir, Tuesdays 7-8.30pm UNLH Burgundy Room

Everyone welcome, no auditions, no experience needed, just enthusiasm!

After an epic first term opening Crystal Palace Festival, backing rap artist Jay Snaggz and performing in local shops and Fetes, Palace Acappella Choir is back for Round 2!

And it’s not too late to get involved! Join us any Tuesday 7pm from 3rd September for a free taster session.

We sing all kinds of music – pop, musical theatre, jazz, classical, world music, folk and more – everyone is welcome and there is no requirement to read music.

We sing ‘a cappella’ – without instrumental accompaniment (usually!) – and create all the harmonies just with our voices. It’s a lot easier than it sounds and a great way to have fun and improve your singing and musical ear. We tend to finish each session with a social pub trip so it’s also a great way to make new local friends!

Inkhead- Ghost Story Writing Course @ England | United Kingdom

Ghost Story Writing Course
Suitable for ages 9 to 11

Are you sitting in the dark with a candle flickering by your side? Is the wind outside battering your windows? Then we’ll begin…
Ghost stories feed the imagination as at least one of the characters does not have to conform to human restrictions; they can move through objects; terrifying people; and time travel. On this course we will show the group how to set up a great ghost story, linking the supernatural to our world, ghost to hero and provide a satisfying (could it be a twist?) ending. Fun and educational at the same time!

Venues: Streatham Tate Library, Upper Norwood Library Hub and Manor House library

Dates:  19th to 21st February 2020
Times: 10 am to 1pm
Price: £150

Swing Patrol – All Levels Class @ Ground Floor
Feb 20 @ 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Join Christoper and Celia for a lesson or two in Swing Dancing. What is Swing Dancing? It’s a collection of dances from the 1920s-1940s including Lindy hop and Charleston. Read more about it here.

When?
Level 1 – Absolute Beginners c
lass | 7.30pm-8.30pm (EXCEPT the 3rd Thursday of every month)
These classes are for new dancers and there is no experience required. We go over the basics every week and then throw in some new moves to get you dancing in no time. This class is drop-in, so you don’t need to book in advance and you don’t need to bring a partner.

Level 2 – Intermediate class | 8.30pm-9.30pm
Build on your Lindy hop and Charleston basics in this class! You have learned some basic moves, but seek a deeper understanding of style and technique. This class will improve your fundamentals in swing. The intermediate class usually takes the same footwork that was used in the beginners class, but adds on slightly harder moves with a focus on some technique and finer details.

Social Dancing | 9.30pm – 11pm
The first Thursday of every month, we have our Jumping’ at the Palace social dance after two classes (7.30-9.30pm). It’s completely free for anyone attending a class that evening, otherwise a bargain £2 entry to support the library. Everyone’s welcome! Check out all the details here. On all the other weeks we all head to the pub together after class.

The 3rd Thursday of every month
On the third Thursday of each month we hold a special all-levels class at 8.30 pm, suitable for beginners and more experienced dancers alike. This might for be a taster class in another swing dance style such as Balboa, Blues or Solo Jazz, or a fun and easy Lindy hop routine.  It’s a great chance to meet your fellow students from both classes and get to know your Crystal Palace swing dance community!

Where?
Burgundy Room
(3rd Thursday: Coffee Shop)

How do I join?
Drop-in on the day OR buy a class card online.

How much does it cost?
