Children’s Ballet and Creative Movement

Combining learning of first ballet steps and rhythms and stories This class is perfect option for the very first adventure with dance!

Taking place in Upper Norwood Library Hub the heart of local community this class combines the regular ballet class with creative movement. We start from fun warm up and practice of our steps to then explore storytelling via movement. We often jump on imaginary train and take a trip, meet animals and go on many adventures! Colourful props such as scarfs, ribbons, or parachute help us imagine the world we are in.

The older group class ends with learning dance routine which we share with parents at the end of the term.

CoderDojo @ Digital Lounge @ Upper Norwood Library Hub (Teal Room)
Feb 15 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
CoderDojo @ Digital Lounge @ Upper Norwood Library Hub (Teal Room) | England | United Kingdom

Dojos are relaxed and fun programming clubs for young people. Providing an opportunity to get creative and try new things. We are happy to welcome one as part of our digital lounge initiative.

Local Mentor Si Hammond brings his Dojo to Upper Norwood Library Hub from Sydenham Community Library. It is open to young people aged 7 to 17 (although under 12s must be accompanied by an adult).

No experience necessary BUT booking essential

Event Details

Please bring:

  • A laptop if you have one. This frees up spares for those that don’t have one.
  • A parent! (Very important). If you are 12 or under, your parent must stay with you during the session.

What we do:

Scratch is a great way to start learning with drag-and-drop graphical blocks that just click together like LEGO. There are a variety of simple step-by-step projects to make animations, games and get familiar with how they work.

Python is a text-based programming language for building more complex programs — including many ‘real-world’ applications. However, it’s still simple to get into and can be run in the browser via sites like https://trinket.io/python

HTML and CSS are the instructions for how a web page is structured and how it looks. Build a webpage and then share it online!

JavaScript makes a webpage interactive. Everything from responding to clicks to recording video!

User accounts:

At the CoderDojo, we use a number of online resources that allow you to save your work so that you can continue working on it at home or next time at the CoderDojo.

If you are using Scratch, sign up for a Scratch account here: https://scratch.mit.edu/

If you are using HTML or Python, we use a website called Trinket and you can sign up so you can save your trinkets here: https://trinket.io/sign-up

Remember to bring your Scratch and/or Trinket username and password when you come to the CoderDojo

Inkhead- Ghost Story Writing Course
Feb 19 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Inkhead- Ghost Story Writing Course @ England | United Kingdom

Ghost Story Writing Course
Suitable for ages 9 to 11

Are you sitting in the dark with a candle flickering by your side? Is the wind outside battering your windows? Then we’ll begin…
Ghost stories feed the imagination as at least one of the characters does not have to conform to human restrictions; they can move through objects; terrifying people; and time travel. On this course we will show the group how to set up a great ghost story, linking the supernatural to our world, ghost to hero and provide a satisfying (could it be a twist?) ending. Fun and educational at the same time!

Venues: Streatham Tate Library, Upper Norwood Library Hub and Manor House library

Dates:  19th to 21st February 2020
Times: 10 am to 1pm
Price: £150
