Event Details

Please bring:

  • A laptop if you have one. This frees up spares for those that don’t have one.
  • A parent! (Very important). If you are 12 or under, your parent must stay with you during the session.

What we do:

Scratch is a great way to start learning with drag-and-drop graphical blocks that just click together like LEGO. There are a variety of simple step-by-step projects to make animations, games and get familiar with how they work.

Python is a text-based programming language for building more complex programs — including many ‘real-world’ applications. However, it’s still simple to get into and can be run in the browser via sites like https://trinket.io/python

HTML and CSS are the instructions for how a web page is structured and how it looks. Build a webpage and then share it online!

JavaScript makes a webpage interactive. Everything from responding to clicks to recording video!

User accounts:

At the CoderDojo, we use a number of online resources that allow you to save your work so that you can continue working on it at home or next time at the CoderDojo.

If you are using Scratch, sign up for a Scratch account here: https://scratch.mit.edu/

If you are using HTML or Python, we use a website called Trinket and you can sign up so you can save your trinkets here: https://trinket.io/sign-up

Remember to bring your Scratch and/or Trinket username and password when you come to the CoderDojo

Tea & Tech - Managing health with online tools (Memory Loss & Stress)
This Tea and Tech will focus on how we can use the internet to be more informed about managing our health online.

Friday March 6th – 12-2. Upper Norwood Library Hub. Westow Street. SE19.

About this Event

Dementia is a life-limiting condition and will affect most of us at some point in having to deal with its symptoms or to care for someone else.

Understanding how to recognize the signs and learning a few techniques to help keep the brain active and our memories alive could make the difference in the quality of life for those around us.

Work overload, trauma and mental health issues can also affect our memory so a greater insight into this at a younger age is very useful.

Anna D’Agostino, Croydon BME Forum (http://www.cbmeforum.org) will help us to recognize the signs and where to get advice and ongoing to support for those living with dementia, carers and family members.

We will look at some of the apps and tools online that can help us improve our memory.

Amy Viola, The Little Escape, (http://thelittleescape.co.uk) will also guide us on how to access and use meditations on our phone or online to help us manage our wellbeing and overall mental state, as she says “The quality of your mindset dictates the quality of your life”

Tea and Tech is a series of workshops & events to make the digital world a whole lot simpler.

We cover a range of topics including personal security, managing your health online and making payments.

We have activities to follow and a chance to try new things such as a tablet or assistive technology.

Time is always set aside for ‘community fixing’ – helping you with updates, installing apps, accessing old accounts and other niggling issues.

We are always looking for volunteers so please get in touch if you can spare a few hours to help local resident. caspar@clearcommunityweb.co.uk.
